PODCAST EPISODE
How do you build and leverage relationships to help you professionally?
Stacey Unck, taught English in China when she was 19 years old and returned home to obtain a bachelor's degree in Mandarin Chinese. She started her career in sales as a recruiter and moved into pharmaceutical sales at Eli Lilly. Since then, she’s worked in the tech industry holding, first in a sales role and eventually transitioning to Sales Enablement, where she helps sales teams maintain the knowledge and skills they need to be successful. She has worked at Tableau and Lucid Software and is currently the Director of Sales Enablement at MasterControl.
In our conversation, we discuss:
What do you do when the job you want isn’t coming easily?
In competitive environments, how do you decide to show up?
Why it’s important to pay attention to your own patterns of behavior.
How to build and leverage relationships with colleagues, managers, and peers to help you professionally.
Faith & Leadership | Why is it important to have a clear vision and understanding of God's plan for your life?
The value of knowing you’ve got people supporting you.
(Look to the end of the newsletter if you want to find the start time for a particular conversation point.)
Some takeaways:
I really appreciated Stacey’s very real story about starting out professionally. She shares about a time when things were really not going well for her career. In fact, at one point, she found herself standing in the rain in an orange vest at Costco, pushing carts in the parking lot. I think it’s going to be a particularly helpful perspective and maybe even encouraging for those just graduating college or getting started in a new career.
During Emily’s episode a few weeks ago, Emily shared the importance of not adopting everyone’s opinions of you as “truth.” Stacey’s conversation adds balance to this, explaining the value of also looking for the patterns that keep showing up around you and acknowledging your part in these situations. These two lessons pair well.
Stacey works in a very competitive world, where it’s easy to start feeling jealous. Yet, she shares an important lesson: success is not a finite resource. In fact, once one of her teams started sharing their successes together, MORE came. It was energizing. This made me wonder… how we can share our successes outside of work within our communities, churches, and families.
Stacey shares a powerful message about the importance of a clear vision of God's goodness and plan for us. Stacey talks about it from an LDS perspective, and many people may relate to this from their own perspective.
